EPISODE #10 | 9:30 AM, Monday, June 15, 2020
Black Americans and COVID-19
Guest: Michael Allen, historian and community activist

Join historian and community activist Michael Allen, popular WJNI radio host Terry Base, and Garcia Williams, executive director of The Medi, for a #COVID19 conversation about documenting the experiences of African Americans living through the #coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. Allen, who has been featured by the local news media for his current history-making project (one example: https://bit.ly/michael-allen), was instrumental in the Gullah-Geechee Special Resource Study and is recently retired from the National Park Service. His most recent project involves the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission and uses a web portal to capture African Americans’ impressions of the coronavirus’ impact on their lives. This project, “Black Carolinians Speak: Portraits of a Pandemic” invites African Americans across South Carolina to submit stories, photography, videos, artwork, poetry, and other material that illustrates their impressions of the pandemic.

Please listen below for an educational and informative discussion to find out how you can share your own COVID-19 experiences.
