A conversation with a gospel singing star... and COVID-19 survivor
Guest: Jarell Smalls, gospel singing star

Join gospel star Jarell J. Smalls, a COVID-19 survivor, popular radio host Terry Base, and Garcia Williams, executive director of The Medi, for a #COVID19 conversation! Scroll down to listen in below as the 34-year-old Jarell shares his experience with the coronavirus, from at first feeling rundown, to gasping for breath, to nearly suffocating and dying of it.

Jarell is a native of Charleston, SC’s East Side. His mother and grandmother were women of great faith who took him and his siblings to church in the “deep country” of Huger, Cainhoy, and Wando, SC, where he learned what he calls “good old-fashioned church.” His extraordinary voice, combined with a prophetic anointing, opened doors for him to travel throughout the US, transcending denominational barriers. He founded the group Gospel Inspiration in 2007 and has frontlined groups like Lee Williams & QCs, Darrell McFadden, Canton Spirituals, Doc & the Hi-Lites, and others. Thousands saw him rouse mourners in song and praise during the funeral of the oldest and youngest killed at Emanuel AME Church.

Gospel Inspiration produced their first album, “Get Ready,” in November 2009. In December 2013 Jarell released his solo Christmas project under Get Ready Music Group, entitled, “Jesus is the Reason,” which includes #1 hit “Mary Rock the Baby.” “A New Season,” featuring billboard-charting single “Prayer Room” was nominated for four Stellar Awards (the Grammys of gospel music) in 2019. Now he and Get Ready Music Group have released another hit single, “We Need Your Power,” also a billboard-charting song.
