Adjusting to life after COVID-19 forces adult children back home
Guest: CBS WCSC Live 5 News Anchor Ann McGill

Join CBS WCSC Live 5 News Anchor Ann McGill, popular WJNI radio host Terry Base & his family, and Garcia Williams, executive director of The Medi,, for a #COVID19 conversation! Scroll down to listen in below as Ann, Terry, and his family talk about their experiences adjusting to life after the coronavirus pandemic found their adult children back at home.

Many households across the nation now have a little less elbow room. According to Zillow, roughly 2.7 million US adults moved in with a parent or grandparent in March and April as the coronavirus pandemic spread. Most of those who packed their bags were Generation Z, ages 18 to 25.

Many young adults are moving back home as a way to save money while continuing to work their jobs remotely. Others had no choice but to come back to the nest because the pandemic left them jobless.
Ann McGill, Live5 News anchor, spent an afternoon with the Bryant family to hear firsthand what it takes to make needed adjustments, resulting in a story featured on Live 5 News earlier this month.

Ann talked about pending changes to her own home caused by the impact of the pandemic: her own son had been working remotely from his apartment in Charlotte while employed full-time during the pandemic, and until required to return to his office in Charlotte to work, asked to move back home to Charleston in order to save money while continuing to work remotely.

A connection with the Bryants revealed that their son needed to move back home as well, though his situation was related to a potential downsizing or layoff or due to the pandemic.

Join us as we engage in a spirited discussion with Ann and WJNI radio host Terry Base and his wife Janele. Listeners will enjoy a rare opportunity to hear from the three as they share changes to their household as related to the balance of space and power. Janele calls it a “surreal experience” having Terrence (25), Jatae (23), Trenton (21), and Jamair (13) all together once again.
Parenting during COVID-19 presents many challenges on multiple levels. This promises to be an informative discussion, and we look forward to this rare opportunity to hear from the professionals we have come to know and love in their own respective roles in serving our community, this time on a personal level.
