EPISODE #8 | 9:30 AM, Monday, June 1, 2020
How COVID-19 can affect special needs children and young children with autism
Guest: Adrienne Troy-Frazier, executive director of Berkeley County First Steps

Join Adrienne Troy-Frazier, executive director of Berkeley County First Steps, popular radio host Terry Base, and Garcia Williams, executive director of The Medi, for a #COVID19 conversation about the pandemic’s unexpected effects on children from newborns to age 8, including those with special needs, autism, and disabilities. You’ll also hear about how the pandemic is affecting pregnant women in our region.

Berkeley County First Steps helps ensure young children are ready for school in Berkeley County, South Carolina, particularly the most vulnerable and underserved, preparing them for a lifetime of learning and success.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, BCFS has worked with partners, legislators, and foundations to provide for the safety net needs of local families and offer children’s Brown Bag STEM activities for families to do together at home. BCFS regularly posts children’s learning activities on its Facebook and Instagram pages, and it offers weekly Caregiver Cafe virtual events designed to provide emotional and physical support to anyone taking care of young children: parents, grandparents, teachers, and others. Its Caregiver Sundays each offer a free, virtual afternoon of healing centered on family storytelling, mindfulness, yoga, and journaling. BCFS also offers free reproductive health and doula services, including birthing and breastfeeding supports in partnership with Birthing With A Purpose.
